I find them most useful, especially if you've been on stims for any length of time. In The BP Bulletin #11 this month, I go into "Building a Better Pre-Workout". In my mind, it should accomplish the following 4 objectives;
1.) Excite (but not over-excite) the CNS
2.) Boost levels of 3 key neuro-transmitters: Acetylcholine, dopamine and norepinephrine
3.) Speed up that neurotransmitter signaling cascade
4.) Do so without risking adrenal burnout, addiction etc.
Having said that, here are a few of my favorite nootropics:
* Acetyl-L-Carnitine
* GPLC
* DMAE
* Oxiracetam
* L-Tyrosine
Some may ask, why not Acetyl-L-Tyrosine? Well, there's evidence that despite the marketing hype, it's actually inferior to straight L-Tyrosine (1).

In the FREE sample issue of The BP Bulletin (see my signature line), you'll find my nootropic of choice for speeding up the neurotransmitter cascade...
