After coming across some research questioning the effectiveness of l-glutamine in recovery I have stopped using it as a supplement and am sticking to using BCAAs and EAAs. Regarding supplements to boost immunity I have previously used Colostrum which I found to be very effective in speeding up recovery (both from gym and from colds). I will probably start using this again as I currently have a cold I cannot seem to get rid of for quite some time now,
I have tried echinacea before but did not find it to be very helpful. Maybe increasing your Vitamin C intake will help too.
I've seen the same research too and I've also seen lots of positive research but obviously it's a personal choice.
When did you stop taking the L-glut and when did your cold flare up? How long did you take glutamine for and did you notice anything from it yourself? Feel free to tell me to get lost if I'm asking too much.
I've been away recently and was taking far less glutamine than normal. This week I've picked up a slight cold, nothing much, more of a sniffle and it could be coincidence but it's my first cold type bug for near on 26 months now. 26 months ago I started glutamine (and Centrum Performance multi vit). When I cut back the glutamine for 10/11 days I pick up a little cold. As I say, it could well be a coincidence but having seen research on it's effectiveness on recovery and immune system support I think it's something that definitely works for me in immune system support.
